Effective May 1, 2024, the US Mpox case trend data will be updated on a monthly basis, specifically during the first week of each month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently monitoring monkeypox cases in 10 states. NBC News is also tracking the situation, providing weekly updates on the number of cases in the US.

Global Outbreak of Monkeypox and US Response

In 2022, a global monkeypox outbreak commenced. This outbreak prompted the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to initiate a comprehensive response that commenced within days of the first reported case in the US. The rapid spread of mpox, previously known as monkeypox, in African nations has been recognized as a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the US, calls for more assertive measures against monkeypox have grown in recent times. The WHO's declaration of the rising mpox cases as a public health emergency further emphasizes the severity of the situation.
