Continental Announces Fully Owned U.S. D/C

Plant Investments Improve Continental's North American Manufacturing Footprint

Auburn, Ind. - July 14, 2023

Continental, a leading global supplier of automotive technologies, announced today it will invest a total of $1.4 billion in its U.S. operations to establish its first fully owned and operated U.S.-based diesel components plant in West Point, Mississippi. This investment will also double production capacity of its existing Shelbyville, Indiana, plant, and consolidate its operations in Columbus, Indiana, into the Shelbyville facility.

The West Point facility will produce diesel fuel injection pumps and injectors. Beginning production in 2027, the new plant will create up to 470 new jobs in the Golden Triangle region of Mississippi. A groundbreaking ceremony at the site is scheduled for July 18, 2023, with Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves expected to attend.

The expansion of Continental’s Shelbyville plant will see it become the company’s North American headquarters for diesel fuel injection systems, housing all engineering and manufacturing operations in one location. This move is expected to create up to 90 new jobs and further strengthen Continental’s position as a leader in fuel injection technology.

“These strategic investments underscore Continental’s commitment to the North American market and our confidence in the future of the diesel engine,” said Andreas Wolf, President of Continental’s Powertrain division. “By establishing our first fully owned and operated U.S.-based diesel components plant and expanding our Shelbyville operations, we are ensuring that we have the capacity and capabilities to meet the growing demand for our advanced fuel injection systems.”

The new Continental facility in Mississippi will be located in the Golden Triangle Industrial Park, which is adjacent to the Golden Triangle Railroad District. The site was selected for its strategic location, which provides access to major transportation routes and a skilled workforce.

“Continental’s investment in West Point is a testament to the strength of Mississippi’s business climate and our commitment to supporting the growth of manufacturing jobs,” said Governor Reeves. “We are excited to welcome Continental to Mississippi and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Continental’s investment in Mississippi is the latest in a series of strategic investments the company has made in its North American operations. In 2022, Continental announced a $170 million investment in its Columbus, Indiana, plant to support the production of electric vehicle components.

These investments demonstrate Continental’s commitment to the North American market and its confidence in the future of the automotive industry. With its focus on innovation and advanced fuel injection technology, Continental is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for cleaner, more efficient diesel engines.
